Founded in 2004, Hawaii Chitopure is a biomaterials company specializing in the US manufacture of ultra-pure chitosan for a variety of medical applications. Hawaii Chitopure is headquartered in Honolulu, HI.

Hawaii Chitopure is developing standardized procedures for optimal, large-scale chitosan manufacturing to produce medical grade chitosan. By consistently manufacturing medical grade chitosan in sufficient quantity, reliability, and purity, Hawaii Chitopure will facilitate national medical treatment capabilities and research opportunities, ensure a steady supply of medical grade chitosan, and create a continuous spin-off industry for Hawaii.

Many markets for medical grade chitosan exist, including use as a medical additive, drug delivery mechanism, cosmetics, and for use in hemorrhage control. Chitosan is the chief ingredient in the HemCon© dressing, an FDA approved bandage for external use. Hawaii Chitopure has a supply agreement with HemCon Inc. to purchase chitosan produced at the HC facility for use in these bandages.

Hawaii Chitopure has received federal funding to set up procedures and processes to manufacture medical grade ultra pure chitosan and to set up a small scale manufacturing plant. Hawaii Chitopure is researching various formulations of chitosan to treat a variety of injuries and infections.
